Coffee and Change

…And as we purchase our latte,

Sourced from slavery and cruelty

The price we already overpay

As though it is some fortuity

We smile as we say

“I don’t need the change”

As we extend a hand holding a bill

Not knowing the blood, party to the exchange

Deluded by our own free will

But change, you see, starts here -in the heart

Pennies and cents carry minimal weight

We can only strive for what is a delicate art

Of balancing our caffeine needs and spreading hate

Indeed these are first world struggles

With source and consumer worlds apart

If only we knew we are of each other doubles

Then we would rewrite history and go back to the start
